Olisa Ndah joins Libyan club Al Shomooa on two-year deal
Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah has completed a move from South Africa to Libyan Premier League club Al Shomooa, ending a difficult period in his career and securing a contract until early 2028.
The 28-year-old centre-back has already been unveiled by his new club and is expected to feature when the new Libyan Premier League season begins.
Ndah’s transfer follows negotiations that had been under way since last week. His agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed that talks with a Libyan club were taking place at a time when the defender was also being linked with CAF Champions League holders Mamelodi Sundowns.
The former Stellenbosch player has signed a two-year agreement with Al Shomooa. Reports suggest he will receive an annual salary of between $300,000 and $500,000, representing a significant financial increase.
Al Shomooa have traditionally operated as a mid-table side in Libya, but the club are seeking to establish themselves among the leading teams in the country. Ndah is expected to contribute to that ambition as one of the more experienced international players in the squad.
The move comes after Ndah spent only six months at Stellenbosch. He joined the club on an 18-month contract but did not agree to an extension when his deal expired at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
His time at Stellenbosch was limited by a delay in securing a work permit, restricting him to seven appearances. The switch to Al Shomooa offers the defender an opportunity to rebuild his form and regain regular football after a frustrating spell.
Ndah moved to South Africa in 2021, leaving Nigerian Professional Football League side Akwa United to join Orlando Pirates. He became an important member of the Buccaneers’ defence, making 81 competitive appearances and winning four trophies during his time at the Soweto club.
His performances for Orlando Pirates also helped him earn recognition with the Super Eagles. However, injuries affected the latter stages of his career with the club.
A fracture to his tibia and fibula kept him out for about four months, while increasing competition from younger defenders eventually saw him fall down the defensive pecking order.
Ndah left Orlando Pirates by mutual consent in January before moving to Stellenbosch. His subsequent lack of playing time and the work-permit delay interrupted his progress, but the agreement with Al Shomooa provides him with a fresh start.
The defender will now aim to settle quickly in Libya and play a leading role as Al Shomooa attempt to improve on their traditional mid-table position.
