Real Madrid angered by yellow card after controversial Albacete challenge
Real Madrid supporters and the club’s television channel have criticised the decision to show Atletico Albacete player Javi Navarro only a yellow card after a heavy challenge on Real Madrid C midfielder Gaby Valero in the opening match of the Spanish Segunda Division season.
Real Madrid TV argued that Navarro should have been sent off for the incident, saying the player had “lost his cool” during the challenge. The broadcaster’s reaction amounted to a clear condemnation of the referee’s decision to issue a booking rather than a red card.
The challenge quickly became the main talking point from the match, with supporters of the Madrid club questioning whether the punishment reflected the seriousness of the contact. A graphic shared during the coverage carried the word “Amarilla”, meaning yellow card.
Valero, who has previously trained with Real Madrid’s first team under Jose Mourinho during pre-season, was hurt in the incident. He required treatment on the pitch before being able to continue the game.
