Real Madrid put Vinicius future on the line as club holds firm in contract stand-off

Real Madrid have made a final contract offer to Vinicius Junior and will not meet his salary demands, effectively leaving the Brazil forward to decide whether he stays or is sold, according to Spanish outlet El Confidencial.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and talks over an extension have been running for two years. Despite signals in recent months that an agreement was close, negotiations have reached a critical point, with Real Madrid refusing to raise their proposal, reported to be below Vinicius’ request for around €30m net per year.

Under president Florentino Perez, the club’s stance is described as binary: either Vinicius renews or he will be put on the market, with Real determined not to lose him on a free transfer in 2027. His current estimated market value of €140m, as listed by Transfermarkt, makes him the seventh most valuable player in world football and underlines the financial scale of the decision.

Contract tension amid dip in form and fan unease

Although his performances have dipped in the last two seasons, following his disappointment in the Ballon d’Or race, Vinicius remains one of the leading forwards in the game. He scored 22 goals and provided 14 assists in 53 matches last season in all competitions, figures highlighted by El Confidencial.

However, his relationship with sections of the Real Madrid support has cooled. A run of inconsistent form has been met with whistles inside the stadium, and there have been several flashpoints between the player and the stands. At the same time, internal doubts have reportedly grown over both his ability to fully gel on the pitch with new arrival Kylian Mbappe and the scale of his financial expectations.

These factors have contributed to the club’s decision to stand firm. Real Madrid are now waiting for Vinicius’ response to what they consider their final offer, with another meeting expected this week in an attempt to bridge the remaining gap but without altering the financial ceiling they have set.

Rebuild under Mourinho frames Vinicius dilemma

The contract dispute comes during a turbulent and busy summer at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid have appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach and completed four new signings, while seeing significant departures from the dressing room.

However, current indications cited by El Confidencial suggest Diomande is more likely to be used predominantly on the right wing. In that scenario, Real Madrid envisage a front line led by Mbappe, flanked by Vinicius on the left and Diomande on the right, forming an attacking trio the club believes could underpin a new cycle of European success.

For that vision to materialise, Vinicius must now accept the contract terms on the table. Real Madrid have made clear they will not go higher, and with the club unwilling to contemplate losing him for nothing, the forward’s decision in the coming days and weeks is set to shape both his own future and the next phase of the Mourinho era in Madrid.
