Referee’s report condemns Barcelona fans after Real Madrid win at Camp Nou

Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou was followed by an incident in which objects were thrown at the visiting players, according to referee Martinez Munuera’s report.

The match official said supporters in the section where Real Madrid players were celebrating Kylian Mbappe’s second goal threw a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can towards the players.

The incident happened in the 87th minute, shortly after Mbappe’s goal settled the first La Liga clasico of the season in Real Madrid’s favour.

Martinez Munuera wrote in his report: “In the 87th minute, during the visiting team’s celebration of their goal, a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can were thrown from the northern stand, which was mainly occupied by home supporters, as was clear from their clothing and chants.

“Neither object hit any player.”

The referee also confirmed that the match was stopped and that the first stage of the protocol for objects being thrown was activated.

“Because of these events, the first stage of the protocol for thrown objects was activated, and this was announced over the stadium’s public address system,” he added.

“As a result, the match was stopped for one minute and 20 seconds. There were no similar incidents during the remainder of the game.”

Real Madrid secured the 2-1 win away from home in the opening league meeting between the two sides.
