“Stuff that makes you strong” – Tosin Adarabioyo reflects on Nigerian heritage

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has spoken about his deep-rooted Nigerian heritage, describing how his upbringing shaped his identity both on and off the pitch.

Born in England to Nigerian parents, the 27-year-old centre-back represented England at youth level but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior level.

In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Adarabioyo highlighted how his childhood was strongly influenced by Nigerian culture.

“We’re very much a Nigerian family and it was a Nigerian upbringing, whether that’s the food or traditionally the way we’ve been brought up, which is a bit different to how it would be here,” he said.

He also spoke fondly of traditional Nigerian meals. “The food is harder—stuff like pounded yam, stuff that makes you strong!”

Despite his club success, Adarabioyo is yet to receive a call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles.
