Argentina U-20 head coach Diego Placente has admitted that his side faces a tough challenge in Wednesday’s Round of 16 clash against Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes knockout tie, Placente acknowledged Nigeria’s threat on the counterattack—a trait he described as particularly dangerous despite Argentina entering the match as favourites after winning all three group-stage games.
“We will play the same way, but we know they are very dangerous on the counterattack,” Placente told TyC Sports during a pre-match press conference.
“Sometimes when you analyse, you’re a little disorganised. When a team is very stretched, it can have its strengths and weaknesses.”
Nigeria, seven-time African champions, will be hoping to replicate their success from the previous edition, where they eliminated Argentina at the same stage of the tournament.
The winner of Wednesday’s fixture will advance to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, bringing them one step closer to global glory.
