Nigeria’s U20 national team have advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Senegal in Monday’s quarterfinal.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s side held their West African rivals to a goalless draw through regular time and extra time in a tense encounter at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.
The match was ultimately decided by penalties, where Nigeria triumphed 4-1.
With the win, the Flying Eagles have secured qualification for the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup, which will take place later this year in Chile.
Having already won seven AFCON titles, the Flying Eagles will now aim to continue their impressive tournament run as they set their sights on adding to their trophy collection.
