Vivian Ikechukwu makes stalemate debut for Cruz Azul in Mexico

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Vivian Ikechukwu played her first-ever match for Mexican women’s top-flight side, Cruz Azul, during a 0-0 draw with Atlas on Sunday.

The former Rivers Angels player joined Cruz Azul this month from the Turkish women’s side, Besiktas.

She replaced Ana Garcia in the 63rd minute of play at the Instalaciones La Noria Cancha 1, Cuidad de Mexico.

The former Gintra FC player had a feel of top-flight football in Mexico for the first time as her new team could not capitalize on going to the top of the log.

They occupy the second position with seven points after three games, two points behind UNAM Pumas.

On August 5, they will welcome Ikechukwu’s compatriots, Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo’s Pachuca.

The duo might not be available for the match due to engagements with the Super Falcons at the Olympics and should be rested for the game.
