Volos goalkeeper apologises to Ayoub El Kaabi after painful collision
Marios Siampanis has apologised to Morocco striker Ayoub El Kaabi after a collision between the pair left the Olympiacos forward with a fracture during Volos’ Greek Super League match on Saturday.
The incident happened in the 43rd minute of the third-round meeting, when El Kaabi challenged for the ball during an attacking move and collided with the Volos goalkeeper.
The Morocco international fell to the ground in obvious pain and was seen struggling after the impact. Medical staff then came on to provide treatment to the injured striker.
Following the match, Siampanis used an Instagram story to send a message of regret and support to El Kaabi.
“I am very sorry for what happened today, Ayoub. I had no intention of hurting you, and it was extremely painful to see you suffering like that. My thoughts are with you. I wish you strength, a full recovery and a return to the pitch as soon as possible, when you are ready,” Siampanis wrote.
The message was reported by the Moroccan website Albotola, which relayed the goalkeeper’s apology after the match.
El Kaabi was injured while attempting to continue an attacking move, with the collision with Siampanis leaving him in visible distress. The incident was followed by the intervention of the medical team, who attended to the striker on the pitch.
Siampanis stressed that the contact had not been deliberate and said he had not intended to injure the Olympiacos player. His public message focused on El Kaabi’s recovery and the hope that the forward will return to action when he is fit and ready.
The match was played as part of the third round of the Greek Super League. The injury occurred shortly before half-time, with El Kaabi’s condition becoming the main concern after the collision.
The Volos goalkeeper’s apology came after he had seen the effect of the incident on El Kaabi, who was left writhing in pain before receiving medical attention. Siampanis expressed particular regret at having witnessed the striker’s suffering and offered his support while wishing him a complete recovery.
