Yemi Olanrewaju dismisses transfer talk and commits future to Rivers United
Rivers United assistant coach Yemi Olanrewaju has dismissed speculation linking him with other Nigeria Premier Football League clubs, insisting his priority is to remain with the club and see out his contract.
Olanrewaju has been linked with a move to leading sides in the league in recent weeks, but he says he remains fully committed to Rivers United as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
The coach also said he has a positive relationship with Rivers United’s management and works well with head coach Finidi George. According to BSNSports.com.ng, Olanrewaju stressed that the support and confidence shown by the club had strengthened his resolve to stay focused on his current responsibilities.
“I am a coach with credibility and values, and there are many things I hold in high esteem, and one of them is Respect. I love Shooting and its project, and we have had contacts in the past and it is a club I will always consider, but for now, my focus and everything is with Rivers as I would like to honour my contract till the end of the season.
“I don’t like to abandon a contract and run halfway. Rivers United management have been so good and kind to me, and the trust they place in me is unbelievable and also my boss ElFINITO.
“Shooting Stars is a club I will always feel honoured to be linked with or mentioned with. If the opportunity comes again in the future, I’ll be glad to consider it, as I believe the union will be massive.
“Thank you, everyone. The tags on Twitter and dm from some fans are something that will make me work harder.”
Olanrewaju acknowledged that he has previously had contact with Shooting Stars and spoke warmly about the club’s project. However, he made clear that any possible return to discussions with the Ibadan-based side would be a matter for the future rather than an immediate move.
For now, he says his intention is to honour his agreement with Rivers United until the end of the season. His comments also underline his appreciation for the club’s management, who he believes have treated him well and placed significant trust in his work.
The Rivers United assistant coach added that the messages and social media attention from supporters had encouraged him to apply himself even more strongly. Despite the rumours surrounding his future, his stated focus remains on the club’s preparations for the forthcoming campaign and his work alongside Finidi George.
Olanrewaju’s remarks are intended to end current uncertainty over his position, while leaving open the possibility of considering Shooting Stars if the opportunity arises again at a later stage.
