Edo Queens, the hosts and defending champions, booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament (BOWFT) after a dominant 4-0 victory over Abia Angels on Saturday at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
Chioma Moses stole the spotlight with a brace, while Emem Essien and Folashade Ijamilusi added one goal each to secure the win for the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) champions.
With this result, Edo Queens extended their unbeaten run at the tournament, having previously drawn 0-0 with FC Robo Queens and edged past Remo Stars Ladies 2-1 in the group stage.
In another exciting clash, Bayelsa Queens, last year’s finalists, also advanced to the semi-finals following a 2-0 triumph over Fortress Ladies at the Western Boys High School Sports Complex in Benin City.
The 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League bronze medalists broke the deadlock with an own goal in the second half before Dooshima Tarnum, formerly of Nasarawa Amazons, sealed the win in the 70th minute.
Bayelsa Queens had missed a penalty in the first half but came back strong in the second period to secure their semi-final spot.
In the day’s other match, Heartland Queens narrowly defeated Espoir FC of Benin Republic 1-0, continuing their strong campaign in the competition.
The final semi-final clash will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, between Nasarawa Amazons and Remo Stars Ladies, who will both be eager to advance to the final.
