Sunday Oliseh opens for Super Eagles coaching role return

By Monsurah Olatunji

Five years after his dramatic resignation as the Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has expressed his openness to returning to the role.

Oliseh was a key member of the Super Eagles’ ‘Class of 94,’ a team celebrated for their exceptional performance at the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

The 49-year-old ex-international was appointed as the national team’s head coach in July 2015. He spent eight months in the position before resigning via social media, citing “the inability of the NFF to honour the terms of his contract.”

Similarly, Finidi George, another member of the ‘Class of 94,’ recently resigned from his position as the Super Eagles head coach following some controversial statements about his role just weeks after his appointment. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has yet to confirm George’s resignation, adding to the current disarray within the organization.

Amidst this uncertainty, Oliseh has made a bold statement suggesting his readiness to serve his country again. In an interview with Elegbete TV, he said, “Let’s not deceive ourselves, I only have one country, forget that I have German pali.

“Nothing brings me more joy than my people. If my country wants to speak with me, I will answer. I can also give technical assistance because we need to qualify for the World Cup.”

Oliseh’s willingness to return reflects his deep commitment to Nigerian football and his desire to see the Super Eagles succeed on the global stage.
