Nigeria vs Zimbabwe Preview: Super Eagles eye consecutive win in World Cup race

Since the beginning of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2023, Nigeria’s senior men’s national team is yet to win consecutive games.

The Super Eagles after four games winless streak finally secured a 2-0 win over Rwanda to awaken their World Cup dreams on Friday.

First half brace from Victor Osimhen ensured that Eric Chelle had a dream debut in charge of the team.

On Tuesday, the 1980 African champions in fourth position faces bottom of Group C log, Zimbabwe in a bid to get their first consecutive victory of the campaign.

Form wise, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners have won three of their last five games in all competitions including a 3-0 victory awarded over Libya during the race to qualify for the 2025 AFCON with a loss and a draw.

The Warriors on the other hand have won just two of their last five games with two draws and a loss.

Last time out, Zimbabwe had to come from 2-0 down to play out a 2-2 draw with Benin Republic on Friday.

Historically, the Super Eagles have won three of the last five meetings with Zimbabwe.

Interestingly, the last two matches involving Nigeria and Zimbabwe have ended in stalemates.

At the end of a friendly match played in 2019, both sides settled for a 0-0 draw while the last encounter in the current World Cup Qualifiers ended in a 1-1 draw as Kelechi Iheanacho cancelled out Walter Musona’s lon range opener at the Stade Huyel.

The last two results make this clash a dicey one with both teams in need of a win to help their course.
