Nasarawa Amazons Rally Past Bayelsa Queens to Maintain Perfect Start in NWFL Premiership Super Six

Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat defending champions Bayelsa Queens 2-1 in their Matchday 2 fixture of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The highly anticipated clash lived up to expectations as both sides produced an entertaining contest in their quest for crucial points in the title race.
Nasarawa Amazons entered the encounter brimming with confidence, having enjoyed positive results against Bayelsa Queens in recent meetings. The opening half was evenly contested, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but lacking the finishing touch needed to break the deadlock. After 45 minutes of intense action, the score remained goalless.
The second half began with the Lafia Landladies applying sustained pressure in search of the opening goal. However, it was Bayelsa Queens who struck first in the 51st minute. A well-delivered corner kick by Tarnum Dooshima caused confusion in the Nasarawa Amazons’ defence, allowing Chiamaka Ezekwugo to rise highest and head home for a 1-0 lead.
The setback did little to dampen Nasarawa Amazons’ resolve as they continued to push forward in pursuit of an equaliser. Their persistence eventually paid off in the 80th minute after Head Coach Christopher Danjuma introduced Moses Farikyen in place of Bibiana Odoh. The substitute made an immediate impact, scoring with her very first touch to level the score at 1-1.
With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, both teams searched desperately for a winner. The referee signalled four minutes of added time, and in the second minute of stoppage time, Ayatsea Hembafan Roseline produced a moment of magic.
Receiving the ball just outside the penalty area, Roseline curled a superb effort beyond the goalkeeper to complete a remarkable comeback and secure a memorable 2-1 victory for the Pride of Nasarawa.
The win marks Nasarawa Amazons’ second consecutive triumph in the ongoing NWFL Premiership Super Six, strengthening their position in the race for the title.
Roseline’s match-winning contribution earned her the Player of the Match award after an outstanding performance capped by the decisive goal.
Reacting after the game, Coach Christopher Danjuma credited the victory to the belief and determination shown by his players.
“Once again, it was about belief. I told the girls to believe in themselves and trust that they could achieve victory. They did exactly that, and the result went our way,” Danjuma said.
Nasarawa Amazons will look to continue their impressive run when they take on FC Robo Queens on June 10 in their third match of the NWFL Premiership Super Six. Robo Queens head into the fixture after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Edo Queens in their second game of the competition.
