England take control as Barcelona’s Anthony Gordon heads past Czech Republic

Anthony Gordon gave England the lead against the Czech Republic with a 47th-minute header, finishing a move that brought together players from Barcelona and Real Madrid in a Nations League encounter shaped by the Three Lions’ dominance.
The goal came at the beginning of the second half, when Gordon met an excellent cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold and directed his header into the opposite corner, beyond the Czech Republic goalkeeper.
It was Gordon’s second successive goal for England. The Barcelona forward had also scored in the Three Lions’ opening Nations League match against Spain, although La Roja won that game 3-2.
England had controlled almost all of the match by the time Gordon opened the scoring. Their advantage was strengthened by the Czech Republic’s numerical disadvantage after Pavel Schultz was sent off in the 25th minute.
The red card forced the hosts to retreat deeper into their own half, allowing England to maintain prolonged possession and apply sustained pressure. Gordon’s finish then rewarded that control shortly after the interval.
The goal also carried an added connection to one of Spanish football’s defining rivalries. Gordon joined Barcelona at the start of the current season from Newcastle, while Alexander-Arnold has played for Real Madrid since moving to the Spanish club in the season before last from Liverpool.
The match is being played on Tuesday in the second round of the Nations League. beIN SPORTS published footage of Gordon’s opener on 29 September 2026.
