Super Eagles player ratings: Nigeria suffer heavy Guinea-Bissau defeat

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were beaten 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L match at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday night.

The result was a major setback for Nigeria in the second round of qualifying, with several of their key players struggling to influence the game. Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi were the only Super Eagles players to receive a rating of 7/10 in Completesports.com’s assessment by Adeboye Amosu.

Starting XI

Stanley Nwabali – 4/10

The Chippa United goalkeeper endured an unsettled evening and appeared short of confidence for much of the match.

Bright Osayi-Samuel – 4/10

The Birmingham City defender was responsible for Guinea-Bissau’s second goal and found the contest difficult from right-back.

Semi Ajayi – 4/10

Ajayi was unable to contain Guinea-Bissau’s quick forwards and produced one of his less convincing performances for Nigeria.

Calvin Bassey – 7/10

The Fulham defender worked hard throughout and was one of the few Nigerian players to make a strong impression.

Bruno Onyemaechi – 4/10

Onyemaechi struggled to influence proceedings and endured what was arguably his poorest appearance for the Super Eagles.

Wilfred Ndidi – 4/10

Nigeria’s captain found it difficult to control the midfield. He was substituted for Raphael Onyedika with 14 minutes remaining.

Frank Onyeka – 3/10

The Brentford midfielder failed to impose himself before being replaced by Moses Usor at half-time.

Alex Iwobi – 7/10

Iwobi was, along with Bassey, one of the two Nigeria players to stand out during a disappointing night for the visitors.

Ademola Lookman – 4/10

Lookman was unable to make a significant contribution for the second game in a row. He made way for Tolu Arokodare in the 68th minute.

Akor Adams – 3/10

The Venezia striker had a below-par performance and was among Nigeria’s least effective players.

Taiwo Awoniyi – 3/10

Awoniyi struggled to affect the game during the first half and was withdrawn at the interval, with Moses Simon taking his place.

Substitutes

Moses Simon – 4/10

Simon brought greater pace to Nigeria’s attack after coming on, although his influence diminished as the match continued.

Moses Usor – 4/10

Usor worked hard after entering the game but could not find a route through Guinea-Bissau’s resilient defence.

Tolu Arokodare – 3/10

The Ajax striker failed to alter the result after replacing Lookman.

George Ilenikhena – 2/10

Ilenikhena missed an opportunity to score for Nigeria with 10 minutes remaining and made little impact during his cameo.

Raphael Onyedika – 2/10

Onyedika replaced Ndidi but was unable to make a meaningful contribution in the closing stages.
