FIFA approves NFF normalisation committee ahead of fresh elections

FIFA has approved the creation of a normalisation committee to run the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until elections are held for a new Executive Committee.

The committee will be appointed jointly by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with both organisations expected to select a suitable number of members as soon as possible.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom confirmed the decision in a letter to the NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme.

The normalisation committee will be responsible for managing the federation’s affairs and preparing the way for the election of a new NFF Executive Committee.

Its mandate will conclude once those duties have been completed, but must end no later than 31 May 2027.

FIFA also stated that anyone appointed to the normalisation committee will be barred from standing for any position in the forthcoming NFF elections.

Until the committee is formally established, the NFF Secretariat will continue to handle the federation’s daily operations. It will also remain responsible for overseeing the administration of football in Nigeria during the interim period.
