Barcelona dealt early El Clasico blow as Xavi Espart forced off injured

Barcelona suffered an early setback against Real Madrid in the El Clasico after Xavi Espart was forced to leave the field with physical pain in the 29th minute.

Hansi Flick replaced the young full-back with Alejandro Balde after Espart became unable to continue.

Espart had started the match and made a positive impression before showing signs of discomfort and restricted movement following an early challenge involving Aurelien Tchouameni. Despite the problem, he initially attempted to remain on the pitch and continue helping his side.

His condition worsened when he sprinted to track Yan Diomande. Espart went to ground and was unable to carry on, prompting Barcelona’s coaching staff to make the change to avoid aggravating the injury.

Flick acted quickly, with Balde taking over at left-back. Joao Cancelo moved across to the right side as Barcelona reshuffled its defence.

Espart’s departure represents a blow for Barcelona after the young player was handed a starting opportunity and impressed during his time on the pitch.

The club is waiting for the results of medical examinations to establish the precise nature of the injury and determine how long Espart could be unavailable.
