Iker Casillas has praised Jose Mourinho after Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in Sunday’s El Clasico, despite the former goalkeeper’s previously strained relationship with the manager.

Real Madrid claimed the points in the first La Liga meeting of the season at Spotify Camp Nou, beating their traditional rivals on their own ground.

Casillas, who remains active on social media, shared his reaction with followers on his official X account after watching his former club secure the win.

“There is still a league title to be decided. Real Madrid produced a wonderful performance… Mourinho’s tactics were excellent,” Casillas wrote.

His comments quickly attracted widespread attention on social media because of the difficult relationship he had with Mourinho during their time together at Real Madrid.

Casillas was Real Madrid’s goalkeeper while Mourinho was in charge of the club. Their relationship became strained, making the former Spain international’s public praise of the manager’s approach particularly notable.

The message suggested that Casillas had put that dispute behind him. Although he now follows Real Madrid’s results from a distance, he made clear that he remains pleased when the club is performing well.
