Bayern Munich repeat rare Champions League first-half statistic after 17 years

Bayern Munich revived a statistic not seen in their UEFA Champions League matches for more than 17 years during Tuesday’s meeting with Atletico Madrid.
The two sides reached half-time at 0-0 in the fourth round of the league phase, with neither team managing a shot on target before the interval.
According to statistics provider Mister Chip, it was the first time Bayern Munich had played a match in any competition without either side recording a shot on target in the first half since their Bundesliga fixture against Augsburg on 9 April 2022.
Bayern won that match 1-0.
The same statistic had not occurred in a UEFA Champions League match involving Bayern since 14 April 2009. On that occasion, Bayern drew 1-1 with Barcelona in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.
Tuesday’s game against Atletico Madrid therefore brought back a rare Champions League record that had been absent from Bayern’s matches in the competition for more than 17 years.
