Michelle Alozie describes historic brace for Houston Dash against Gotham FC

Nigerian defender, Michelle Alozie has described how she scored her first double for her National Women’s Soccer League side, Houston Dash against Gotham FC a week ago.

The Super Falcons star bagged a brace which were enough to lift the American outfit to a 2-0 win at Gotham despite the host’s dominant display which earned her the NWSL Player of the Week.

“As I was running inside, I was looking to my left and saw Nichelle made a perfect dink of a pass,” Alozie recounted the first goalscoring moment to NWSL Inside the Game.

“And I honestly thought I was offside, so I shot it. That was why I wasn’t celebrating.

“I was just on the floor and kind of just telling everyone like ‘Guys, I’m pretty sure I am offside, like let us just go back into position. But then they said I was onside. There was a last defender and so it was a goal.”

The second goal came from a counter with Alozie lifting the ball above rushing Gotham goalkeeper.

“I honestly thought I was going to run into the ball. It kept curving and I just hoped as I was running away from it, that it didn’t hit me,” she continued.

“It bounced right between me and the defender. As I was running onto the ball, the goalie was actually running backward. I was thinking that I was going to keep dribbling.

“Then she [goalkeeper]ended up coming. I kind of just hit and hoped she hit me. I didn’t even see the goal go in. All my teammates rushed to me afterward, telling me that it went in, but I was kind of out of it.”

The brace increased her tally for the season to four goals, her best ever goal scoring record with the club.
