Ajax discuss permanent Tolu Arokodare deal with Wolves but will not exceed €25m

Ajax have begun discussions with Wolves over the permanent signing of Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, but are reportedly unwilling to pay more than €25m.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Ajax from Wolves, and his form has strengthened the Dutch club’s interest in making the move permanent. However, no agreement has been reached and the final fee, along with the other terms of any transfer, still have to be decided.

The report comes from Afrik-Foot, which cited Fichajes. It says Wolves are prepared to consider a sale but must decide whether to accept Ajax’s valuation. Wolves have not reportedly set a specific asking price and could seek more than €25m.

Arokodare has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances for Ajax this season, according to the same report. That return gives Ajax a strong argument for agreeing a substantial fee, while also providing Wolves with grounds to demand more for a forward who has been scoring at a rate of about 0.64 goals per game.

The two clubs may not reach a conclusion during the winter. If negotiations remain unresolved, the matter could run until next summer, with Arokodare potentially staying at Ajax in the meantime.

Such an extension would give the striker more time in the Eredivisie as he seeks to remain in Eric Chelle’s thinking for the Super Eagles. Arokodare previously played for Genk.

The player has already discussed his ambitions at Ajax earlier this month in an article titled Arokodare sets clear Ajax target. Soccernet has also reported on his position regarding a permanent move and the finances involved in his future at the club.

For now, Ajax’s reported €25m limit is the key figure in the negotiations. The transfer is not confirmed, and the outcome will depend on whether Wolves are willing to accept that valuation or hold out for a higher fee.
