Akor Adams: Venezia sign Nigeria striker on long-term deal to 2030

Newly promoted Serie A club Venezia have signed Nigeria international striker Akor Adams on a permanent deal running until 30 June 2030.

The 24-year-old moves to the Venetian side from Sevilla as the club strengthens its squad ahead of its return to Italy’s top flight.

Venezia confirmed the Super Eagles forward has put pen to paper on a six-year contract with the Arancioneroverdi (Orange and Greens), underlining their long-term faith in the powerful attacker.

Rising through Norway to European spotlight

Adams, who came through the Jamba Academy system in Nigeria, began his professional career in Norway with Sogndal IL in 2018.

During his spell there, he made 56 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists, quickly establishing himself as a promising young striker in Scandinavian football.

A move to Lillestrøm SK followed for the 2021-22 campaign, where Adams’ scoring output accelerated. He struck 28 goals and delivered seven assists in 50 matches, becoming one of the most effective forwards in the Norwegian Eliteserien.

His form at Lillestrøm also earned him continental exposure. Adams featured once in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying and impressively scored twice in a single game for the club’s second team during that European run.

Montpellier move showcases goalscoring pedigree

Adams’ performances in Norway attracted interest from across Europe, leading to a transfer to Ligue 1 side Montpellier HSC in the summer of 2023.

In France, he continued to demonstrate his eye for goal, registering 13 goals and five assists in 49 appearances in all competitions. His physical presence and finishing ability made him a key attacking option in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

That form paved the way for a switch to La Liga and Sevilla in January 2025, giving Adams another major platform in European football.

Sevilla stint and transition to Serie A

At Sevilla FC, Adams added further top-level experience in Spain. Over the course of his time at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, he scored 10 goals and produced four assists in 37 appearances.

The move to Venezia now offers Adams his first taste of Italian football, as he joins a club seeking to consolidate its place in Serie A following promotion.

The length of the contract suggests Venezia view Adams not only as an immediate reinforcement in attack but also as a central figure in their medium to long-term project.

International career with Nigeria

On the international stage, Adams has progressed through Nigeria’s ranks, first appearing for the country at under-20 level, where he earned two caps.

He has since broken into the senior Super Eagles set-up, making 15 appearances and scoring six goals for the three-time African champions.

Venezia will hope that his international experience, combined with a proven scoring record in Norway, France and Spain, will help the club compete effectively in Serie A and avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
