Arokodare snubs Trabzonspor as Nigerian striker targets move to Europe’s elite leagues

Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare has rejected a transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor, insisting he will only pursue opportunities in one of Europe’s top-five leagues.

The 25-year-old, who has been the subject of an accepted bid from Trabzonspor by Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, is understood to have ruled out a switch to the Turkish Super Lig at this point in his career.

Arokodare is instead pushing for a move to a club in England, Spain, Germany, Italy or France as he looks to take the next step in his professional journey.

Striker turns down Turkish approach

Despite Wolves giving the green light to Trabzonspor’s proposal, reports indicate that Arokodare has made it clear he does not wish to move to Turkey now.

He is believed to see his long-term future in one of Europe’s “big five” competitions and is prepared to wait for the right opportunity rather than accept a lucrative move outside those leagues.

The decision comes amid strong and growing interest from Turkey. Alongside Trabzonspor, current Super Lig champions Galatasaray and rivals Besiktas are all thought to be tracking the Nigerian’s situation closely and remain keen to tempt him to Istanbul.

Genoa offered chance as Fiorentina step back

With the Turkish offer rebuffed, Arokodare has now been presented to Serie A side Genoa as a potential attacking reinforcement.

The Ligurian club are reported to be considering him as they assess options to bolster their forward line ahead of the new campaign. A move to Genoa would satisfy Arokodare’s desire to compete in one of Europe’s top domestic competitions.

Another Italian club, Fiorentina, had previously shown an interest in the striker. However, that prospect has cooled significantly after the Florence club encountered complications with their non-EU player quota, limiting their ability to register additional overseas signings.
