Al Ahly confirm Imam Ashour contract extension until 2030

Al Ahly have ended speculation over Imam Ashour’s future by confirming the midfielder has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Egyptian club until 2030.

Ashour had been linked with a move away from Al Ahly during the current summer, with reports suggesting interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The uncertainty had intensified in recent weeks, particularly in connection with the period after the 2026 World Cup.

However, Al Ahly have now formally settled the issue. The club announced in the early hours of Wednesday that Ashour had agreed to extend his contract and would remain part of the first-team squad for the next four years.

In an official statement, Al Ahly said: “Imam Ashour, the first-team football player, has extended his contract with the club until 2030. This came during a meeting with Dr Essam Siraj El-Din, head of the contracts department, who completed all the administrative and financial procedures in full coordination with captain Wail Gomaa, the football director.”

The club added: “During the meeting, the player expressed his full gratitude to Al Ahly and its large fan base and his desire to continue his career with the club during the coming years.”

The announcement brings to an end the recent discussion surrounding whether Ashour could leave Al Ahly in the summer. Despite reported attention from Turkish and Saudi clubs, the player is now set to continue with the Cairo-based side under the terms of his new agreement.

Ashour’s continued absence from Al Ahly’s opening Egyptian Premier League match had also formed part of the recent discussion about his situation. He did not feature in the team’s first league game, a 3-2 victory over Eastern Company Enppi.

Al Ahly are preparing for their second match of the Egyptian Premier League campaign, when they face ZED on Friday evening. Ashour’s contract extension was confirmed shortly before that fixture, giving clarity over his position at the club as the team continues its domestic schedule.

The new agreement means Ashour is committed to Al Ahly through 2030, while the player has publicly expressed his intention to remain with the club and continue his career in the coming years.

The midfielder’s future had been the subject of growing reports during the summer, but Al Ahly’s statement has formally confirmed that there will be no departure at this stage. The club’s administrative and financial procedures for the extension have been completed, according to the official announcement.
