By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian forward Anam Imo, made a significant impact in the Swedish Svenska Cupen, scoring her debut goal to propel her team to a commanding 3-0 victory against Umea on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead just before halftime, with Emma Viklund finding the back of the net in the 45th minute at the Umea Energi Arena. Imo then extended her team’s advantage in the 58th minute with a well-taken goal, firmly putting them in control of the match. A late own goal in the 71st minute secured a comprehensive 3-0 win for the traveling side.

Imo, who played the entire duration of the game, showcased her prowess by opening her goal account in the cup competition this season, having played two games thus far.

In the previous season (2023), Imo had an impressive record, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in 25 league appearances.

Despite her stellar performances, her team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL), finishing just one place and four points shy.

With this victory, Pitea now leads Group 4 of the Svenska Cupen with a perfect six points from two games, ahead of Umea with three points.

IF Bommapojkarna and Uppsala, both yet to secure any points, will face off in their upcoming second group game.

Next up for Imo and her teammates is a crucial clash against Bommapojkarna in their third group game scheduled for March 24, 2024.
