Bayern Munich held by Augsburg after Manuel Neuer error gifts fastest Bundesliga goal

Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Augsburg in the Bavarian derby on Saturday after a costly early mistake by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer gave the hosts the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.

The match at WWK ARENA began with Augsburg taking the lead after just eight seconds. Neuer failed to control a back-pass from Luis Diaz, allowing Robin Fellhauer to collect the ball and score into an unguarded net.

Bayern thought they had levelled shortly after half-time, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The visitors eventually drew level in the 55th minute when Morocco international Ismael Saibari converted from inside the penalty area.

Harry Kane supplied the decisive pass, finding Saibari, who finished accurately to put Bayern back into the contest.

Augsburg regained their advantage in the 64th minute. Neuer saved Calvin Braakman’s shot, but Rodrigo Ribeiro reacted first to the rebound and followed up to score.

Bayern continued to press and were rewarded in the 80th minute when substitute Nathaniel Brown restored parity. Kane delivered a low cross after exchanging passes with Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Brown calmly turned the ball in with his left foot from close range.

The visitors had four goals disallowed for offside in the second half and missed several other chances. Serge Gnabry was among those to come close, with one effort striking the post.

The result leaves Bayern Munich second in the Bundesliga with 11 points, two behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund had also drawn 2-2 with Werder Bremen on Friday evening.

Vincent Kompany’s side needed victory to move to the top of the table on goal difference, but instead dropped two points in a match in which they had to recover from falling behind twice.

Augsburg move on to eight points and sit fifth in the Bundesliga standings.
