Hansi Flick warns Barcelona players to expect ‘hostile atmosphere’ at Galatasaray

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has warned his players not to underestimate Galatasaray as they prepare for a difficult away fixture in the second round of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Barcelona began their European campaign with a convincing 5-1 victory over Dutch side Feyenoord, but Flick believes the trip to Turkey will present a significantly tougher challenge.

The German manager has stressed, both within the club and in his public comments, that the meeting with Galatasaray is an important fixture in Barcelona’s schedule. He is particularly wary of the quality available to the Turkish side, who have a squad containing several players with considerable international experience.

Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane are regarded as the leading examples of that strength. Flick and his coaching staff consider Galatasaray one of the most demanding away opponents Barcelona will face during the league phase of the competition.

The challenge, in their view, is comparable to the difficulty of facing Paris Saint-Germain away from home. However, Barcelona’s preparations have also focused heavily on the atmosphere expected inside the stadium in Istanbul.

Speaking at the news conference after Barcelona’s match against Getafe, Flick issued a clear warning about the conditions that would await his team. He described Galatasaray’s home environment as the most intense and the loudest stadium atmosphere in Europe.

Barcelona’s players have already experienced matches played under extreme pressure. Their previous encounters with Inter Milan, including the semi-final at San Siro, have given them experience of hostile and demanding surroundings.

Even so, the message delivered to the dressing room has been that Galatasaray could create an atmosphere more aggressive than anything the Barcelona squad has previously encountered inside a football ground.

Flick is therefore demanding maximum concentration from his players as they seek to maintain their strong start to the Champions League and return from Istanbul with all three points.
