Davido confirmed as co-owner of NPFL club Inter Lagos

Afrobeats star Davido has entered Nigerian top-flight football as co-owner of Inter Lagos, with his manager Asa Asika confirming the singer’s involvement in the club.

Asika revealed that he and Davido jointly own the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, which secured promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) after an impressive 2025/26 campaign.

The move gives Davido, whose full name is David Adeleke, an ownership stake in one of Nigeria’s 20 top-flight clubs during the 2026/27 NPFL season. He is also involved in the wider sports arm of the pair’s business interests.

Inter Lagos sealed promotion after finishing top of NNL Conference A. Their place in the NPFL was guaranteed in April when they drew 1-1 with Smart City, taking their points tally to 29 from 15 matches.

They were among four clubs promoted to the top flight, alongside Doma United, Sporting Lagos and Ranchers Bees.

Inter Lagos’ rapid rise

Founded in 2023, Inter Lagos have moved quickly through the Nigerian football system. The club began competing in the NNL in the 2023/24 season before earning promotion to the NPFL in April 2026.

They later finished runners-up in the NNL Super Four, completing a rise that has placed them among Nigeria’s leading clubs for the 2026/27 campaign.

Inter Lagos are now playing their first season in the NPFL. Their opening top-flight victory came away to Enyimba on September 20.

Three days later, they drew 1-1 with Kano Pillars before losing to Plateau United two days ago.

Davido’s wider business interests

Asika’s comments provide further detail about Davido’s role in Nigerian football following Inter Lagos’ promotion from the second tier.

He indicated that the investment is part of a long-term business plan rather than a short-term celebrity project. Asika also highlighted the growing involvement of wealthy private investors in Nigerian football and suggested that he and the five-time Grammy nominee intend to establish a lasting presence in the sector.

Davido’s ownership links one of Nigeria’s best-known music figures with a club that has quickly become one of the country’s most discussed new entrants.

Inter Lagos’ promotion had already attracted attention because of the speed of their progress since being formed. Asika’s confirmation has now placed Davido’s involvement at the centre of interest surrounding the club as it continues its maiden NPFL campaign.
