Djihad Bizimana: Amavubi captain targets three points against Super Eagles

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The captain of the Rwandan senior men’s national team, Djihad Bizimana, is confident of victory against Nigeria on Matchday five of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Friday.

The Super Eagles played in the same group at the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

A 0-0 draw in Kigali was followed by a 2-1 loss in Uyo, which ended the three-time African champion’s unbeaten run in the qualifiers.

With the previous results against the Super Eagles, the Amavubi captain is optimistic about getting another positive result.

“We played Nigeria twice already,” He said during the pre-match press conference.

“There’s nothing to worry about at all with them having the strongest attacking line in Africa.

“As players, we are focused on holding them down.

“We will play to our coach’s instructions and hopefully, we will take our chances tomorrow and get the three points.”

On Friday, Franco-Malian tactician Éric Sékou Chelle will lead out the Super Eagles for the first time as the FIFA World Cup qualifying series resumes with Nigeria.

The West African side has yet to win in their previous four matches, having to start winning to brighten their chances of picking the only automatic ticket from Group C to the finals in the United States of America (USA), Canada, and Mexico next summer.
