FWZ stun Porcinos FC on penalties to claim first Kings League Club World Cup win in Milan

FWZ, led by Kuwaiti content creator Fawaz Al Shammari, knocked out Spanish contenders Porcinos FC on penalties to secure their first-ever victory at the Kings League Club World Cup 2026 in Milan.

The side from Kuwait edged through 4-1 in a shootout after a tense contest, eliminating one of the tournament’s leading favourites and underlining the growing impact of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) teams in the global seven-a-side competition.

Porcinos FC, one of the most successful and popular clubs in the Kings League structure, came into the tie with strong expectations but were unable to find a way past FWZ, who delivered a composed and disciplined display before holding their nerve from the spot.

The win marks FWZ’s maiden success at the Kings League Club World Cup in their debut campaign and adds to a notable run for clubs from the region. It comes just days after Saudi Arabian side DR7 recorded a landmark victory over the reigning champions at the start of their own participation in the same tournament.

Milan hosts global seven-a-side showcase

Milan is staging the Kings League Club World Cup 2026 from 26 July to 1 August, with 16 teams from Kings League competitions around the globe competing for the world title in seven-a-side football.

All clubs are playing under the competition’s trademark innovative rules, which are designed to blend conventional football with fast-paced action and fan-focused twists, helping the format build an international following in a short period of time.

Regional growth ahead of Riyadh launch

FWZ’s success coincides with preparations for the first full season of Kings League – Middle East, which will be held in Riyadh later this year.

The new regional league, covering the Middle East and North Africa, will run in the Saudi capital from 18 September to 30 October, featuring 10 teams. All matches in the upcoming season will be staged at Cool Arena in Boulevard Riyadh City, under a strategic partnership between Kings League and sports investment company SRJ Sports Investments.

After a positive response to the inaugural edition, the competition has expanded from 8 to 10 participating teams for the new season. The calendar will comprise 11 matchdays before concluding with a Final Four stage to determine the champions.

Pique’s project continues rapid expansion

Kings League, created by former Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, is an innovative seven-a-side football competition that merges elite sporting competition with content creation and digital entertainment.

Using non-traditional rules and extensive fan interaction, the format has quickly developed a global footprint, with local versions launched in several countries and the introduction of both club and national team World Cups.

The Middle East and North Africa edition is the regional branch of the global Kings League project and forms part of the strategic partnership with SRJ Sports Investments. The aim is to offer a new kind of football experience in the region, rooted in Pique’s original concept of reimagining the sport through inventive rules and an emphasis on both competition and entertainment.

In the MENA league, clubs are fronted by some of the region’s leading content creators and influencers, reflecting the competition’s blend of sport, entertainment and digital culture. Organisers say this approach is designed to create a modern, interactive way of following football that aligns with the expectations of a new generation of fans.
