Harry Kane wins Gerd Muller Award after goal-laden Bayern Munich season

Harry Kane has been named the world’s best striker after winning the Gerd Muller Award at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

The Bayern Munich forward’s latest honour follows his crowning as the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, completing a remarkable season for the England captain with both club and country.

Kane scored 73 goals and supplied eight assists during the campaign, helping Bayern Munich secure three trophies: the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup.

His scoring record has placed him among the leading forwards in world football and earned him recognition for his outstanding performances throughout the 2025-26 season.

The award was previously won by Arsenal’s Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony. It has now passed to Kane in recognition of his prolific contribution in front of goal.

Ballon d’Or ceremony in London

This year’s ceremony is being held in the British capital on Monday evening, marking the first time the Ballon d’Or event has taken place in London.

The gathering has brought together leading figures from across the game, with the winners of football’s most prominent individual awards being announced in the English capital.

The 70th edition of the ceremony is organised by France Football and honours the finest players in the world for the 2025-26 season. The annual event recognises individual achievements as well as the collective success of players with their clubs and national teams.

For the fifth time in the award’s history, players are being assessed on their performances across a football season rather than a calendar year.

The evaluation period runs from 3 August 2025 to 19 July 2026, allowing performances in all competitions during that timeframe to be considered.

Kane’s 73 goals, eight assists and role in Bayern Munich’s three domestic successes formed the basis of his claim to the Gerd Muller Award, while his wider contribution during the season also helped him secure the Ballon d’Or.
