Abia Warriors fined as Chidera Favour Igwe receives five-match NPFL suspension

Abia Warriors have been fined by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after security failures and an attempt to disrupt the live broadcast of their Matchday 10 fixture against Niger Tornadoes.

The club was found to have failed to provide the level of security agreed at the pre-match technical meeting. An Abia Warriors official also harassed a crew member working for the league’s broadcast partner, an incident the NPFL said amounted to conduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

The league has imposed fines on Abia Warriors, while the club’s multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, has been suspended from all NPFL activities for five matches.

The suspension applies to both home and away fixtures and relates to Igwe’s involvement in the disruption and harassment of the broadcast crew member.

The NPFL said the failure to maintain the agreed security arrangements, followed by interference with its official broadcast partners, represented serious breaches of league regulations.

The sanctions take immediate effect. Abia Warriors are required to comply with them while any appeal is considered.

The club has 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the penalties.
