“I’m eager to give my all” – Sadiq Ismail ecstatic over first Super Eagles call-up

By Wale Mustapha

Remo Stars defender, Sadiq Ismail, is overjoyed after receiving his first invitation to the Nigeria national team.

The talented right-back is among the 23 players selected by Coach George Finidi for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Ismail’s call-up comes as a reward for his outstanding performances for Remo Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season, where he has contributed 13 assists for the Ikenne-based club.

The 22-year-old expressed his gratitude to his coaches, teammates, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the opportunity, promising to make the most of it.

“I’m thrilled to receive my first national team call-up! I’m eager to give my all and make a strong contribution.

“I am most grateful and thanks to the @thenff & the coaching crew of the @NGSuperEagles for the opportunity,” Sadiq wrote on his personal X handle.

The Super Eagles brushed past the South Africans to reach their eighth AFCON Final.

Bafana Bafana are second in the World Cup qualifying group with three points from two matches, a point ahead of third-placed Nigeria.

Rwanda top the six-team section on four points with the overall winners advancing automatically to the 2026 World Cup to be jointly hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
