NFF sets target for Finidi George as Super Eagles head coach

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has revealed the targets set for newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George.
Finidi George, a former Nigerian international, was appointed as the new Super Eagles head coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro, who led the team to the AFCON 2023 final.
Although initial reports suggested that Finidi signed a one-year contract, sparking doubts about the federation’s confidence in his appointment, Gusau has now confirmed that the contract is for two years.
In an interview on Soccer Africa, a football show in South Africa, Gusau clarified that Finidi signed a two-year deal, as reported by Brilla FM. He also outlined the specific targets set in the coach’s contract.
“The key thing is, in every contract, there must be some indices and some targets that you must put in place for somebody in order for him to get optimal performance,” Gusau said.
The first target is to qualify the team for the next year’s Nations Cup. Additionally, the team must reach at least the semi-finals of AFCON 2025. The third target is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Lastly, the team must reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
These ambitious targets aim to propel the Super Eagles to new heights on both the continental and global stages.
