Kekechi Iheanacho: Nigerian winger ends 17-week drought with Leicester City winner

Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero for Leicester City on Saturday as he scored the lone goal that saw the Foxes beat Gillingham 1-0 in the third round of FA Cup.

The solitary goal has also ended the fustrated Super Eagles winger’s four months goal drought for the English side.

The Foxes went Priestfield Stadium for the clash against Gillingham with the hope taking a ride over their hosts but could not live up their expectations

Iheanacho was handed a rare start by Brendan Rodgers and the Nigerian star formed a strike partner with Jamie Vardy.

Leicester City as expected dictated the game from start but couldn’t find a way through Gillingham defense

The hosts also had their moments which could have seen them making the usual FA Cup stories as regards upset bit fell short of initiatives in the final third.

However, the Leicester resumed the second half with more urgency, and they were rewarded with the goal 11 minutes after.

Vardy run through the given space after collected a brilliant pass from Youri Tielemanns and fed Iheanacho who didn’t waste time to bury past Gillingham keeper.

The visitors held on to the slender lead to secure next round berth even with a late surge from lower league side.

Iheanacho has now taken his season’s goal tally to two and one assist in all competitions.
