Kylian Mbappe beats Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid’s August player award

Kylian Mbappe has been named Real Madrid’s player of the month for August after making an impressive start to the new La Liga season.

The France international won the vote ahead of his Real Madrid team-mates, including England midfielder Jude Bellingham, to claim his first monthly award of the campaign with the Spanish club.

Mbappe’s recognition follows a prolific opening to the season. He scored four goals in Real Madrid’s first three La Liga matches, playing the full 270 minutes available across those games.

The forward also registered 18 shots on target and completed 111 passes for his team-mates during that opening run. His performances helped Real Madrid make a strong start to the league campaign and established him as the leading candidate for the club’s August award.

The announcement was shared with a message celebrating the France captain:

👏 ¡Enhorabuena,@KMbappe!✨ Jugador Cinco Estrellas · Agosto⚽@FutbolMahou

Bellingham, despite missing out on the award, also began the season in strong form. The England international appeared in Real Madrid’s opening three league matches, scoring twice and providing two assists in 245 minutes.

His direct contribution to four goals in the first three rounds of La Liga made him Mbappe’s main rival for the monthly prize. However, Mbappe’s four goals and complete playing record across the three matches secured the award for the French forward.

Real Madrid will return to action against Real Betis on Friday evening in the fourth round of La Liga. The match comes with the club dealing with a number of absences.

The reigning Spanish side currently sit second in the La Liga table with nine points from their opening three matches. They will therefore go into the meeting with Real Betis looking to maintain their perfect start, despite the number of players unavailable to manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Mbappe’s award provides another early indication of his influence at Real Madrid, while Bellingham’s contribution underlines the attacking options available to the club at the beginning of the new season. The two players have already accounted for a significant share of Real Madrid’s goals and assists during the first three league fixtures.
