Manuel Neuer error helps Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer score fastest Bundesliga goal

Augsburg stunned Bayern Munich after just eight seconds on Saturday when Robin Fellhauer capitalised on a costly mistake by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to score the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.
The goal came immediately after kick-off. Luis Diaz played the ball back towards Neuer, but it moved away from the Bayern goalkeeper’s foot as he attempted to control it.
Fellhauer seized on the loose ball, won possession and ran through on an unguarded goal before calmly finishing to give Augsburg an early lead.
The strike broke a Bundesliga record that had stood for 63 years. According to Opta, the previous fastest goals had been scored after nine seconds by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi.
Volland’s goal was also scored against Neuer. He found the net for Hoffenheim against Bayern on 22 August 2015, while Bellarabi scored for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund on 23 August 2014.
Fellhauer’s finish therefore moved ahead of two goals that had shared the record for the quickest in the competition’s history.
Bayern arrived at the match aiming to move top of the Bundesliga after Borussia Dortmund dropped points on Friday. Dortmund drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen, taking their total to 13 points.
That result left Bayern three points behind Dortmund before the visit to Augsburg, although the Bavarian side had the better goal difference.
Sky Sport described the moment as Bundesliga history, writing: “HISTORY WRITTEN! Robin Fellhauer shocks Bayern and writes Bundesliga history! The Augsburg attacker scores the earliest goal in the 63-year history of the Bundesliga – and benefits from a major mistake by Manuel Neuer.”
The post also included footage of Fellhauer’s finish and was published on 10 October 2026.
