McInnes delighted as Chukwuani seals Rangers’ 4-0 win over St Johnstone

Rangers coach Derek McInnes praised Tochi Chukwuani after the midfielder came off the bench to complete a 4-0 victory over St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.
Chukwuani replaced Kevin Kelsy in the 83rd minute and added Rangers’ fourth goal late on, finishing calmly from Djeidi Gassama’s pull-back.
Kelsy had already scored twice before being substituted, while Ryan Naderi also found the net as Rangers established a commanding lead.
McInnes made several changes to his side, giving players an opportunity for additional minutes, but said the result remained a fair reflection of Rangers’ performance.
“We made a lot of changes to try and get the boys minutes, but we scored three goals,” McInnes told BBC Sport.
“I’m delighted for my centre forwards to get amongst the goals, delighted for Tochi Chukwuani to get amongst it as well and getting the fourth goal.
“And I think the scoreline was just about right, you know, because in terms of chances created and some of the opportunities, but it’s a learning curve for us as well.”
The goal was a notable moment for Chukwuani, a former Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent who has not started a league match for Rangers this season.
He has, however, begun all three of the club’s cup matches.
With opportunities in the first team limited, Chukwuani has been linked with a possible departure in January in search of more regular playing time.
The midfielder joined Rangers in the winter transfer market and scored three goals in 18 appearances during the second half of last season.
