Mohamed Salah future: Agent says ex-Liverpool star’s next club will be decided ‘very soon’

Mohamed Salah’s agent has insisted the former Liverpool forward has not yet agreed a move to any club, but says a decision on his next destination is now “very, very soon”.

Ramy Abbas moved to cool mounting speculation on Friday after a series of reports claimed the Egypt captain had already chosen his next team following his exit from Anfield at the end of last season.

“We still don’t know where Mohamed Salah will play next season, but we may know that very, very soon,” Abbas wrote on X, in his first public comment since the latest round of rumours emerged.

Agent dismisses ‘noise’ around transfer talks

Abbas strongly rejected suggestions that he had entered talks with clubs that Salah has no interest in joining, describing such a move as against his principles.

He added: “It is not our style to enter into negotiations or discussions with clubs that Mohamed Salah does not wish to play for, just to create controversy or media noise.”

His remarks appeared to be aimed at reports that the Colombia‐born representative had opened negotiations with Turkish side Besiktas over a potential deal for the 32-year-old.

Turkish and regional outlets had suggested preliminary contacts were under way, fuelling a fresh wave of speculation over Salah’s next move in what is expected to be one of the most high-profile free transfers of the summer.

Besiktas fans chant Salah’s name

The Besiktas links intensified on Thursday when the club’s supporters chanted Salah’s name during the unveiling of Belgian winger Leandro Trossard, who has joined from Arsenal.

The scenes were widely shared on social media and interpreted by some as a signal of the Istanbul club’s ambition to lure Salah to the Turkish Super Lig.

However, Abbas’s intervention indicates that, while discussions with interested sides are ongoing, nothing has been finalised and some of the clubs mentioned may not be under genuine consideration.

European, Saudi and MLS clubs all linked

Salah is preparing for the first new club move of his career since 2017, after a glittering nine-year spell at Liverpool in which he won multiple major honours and individual awards.

He scored goals at a prolific rate under Jurgen Klopp, helping the club to the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Club World Cup, while also claiming several Golden Boots and player of the year prizes.

In recent weeks, he has been linked with a number of teams across Europe’s top leagues, as well as sides in the Saudi Pro League – known commercially as the Roshn Saudi League – and Major League Soccer in the United States.

No club has yet emerged as a clear favourite, but the tone of Abbas’s comments suggests an announcement could follow in the near future.

World Cup heroics add to intrigue

Salah’s club future has been further complicated by his central role with Egypt, whom he led to a historic appearance in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Egypt exited the tournament after a dramatic and controversial 3-2 defeat to eventual champions Argentina, but Salah’s performances on the global stage have underlined his continued status as one of the game’s elite forwards.

Abbas’s statement indicates that the next chapter of Salah’s career – and which shirt he will wear in the 2026-27 season – is close to being settled, even if, for now, the identity of his new club remains unknown.
