Nigeria-eligible forward, Edna Imade brought her scintillating goal-scoring form from second-tier Cacereno to newly promoted Spanish Liga F side, Granada as she scored the winning goal to seal a 2-1 win for Granada over Real Sociedad during her new team’s first-ever game in the top-flight.
With the first chance of the encounter, Colombian defender, Andrea Gomez capitalized on defensive lapses to open the scoring in the eighth minute.
The visitors responded as Amaiur Sarriegi’s effort went over the bar and she atoned for the missed chance with the equaliser after receiving a back-heeled pass from Sanni Franssi in the 26th minute.
Granada almost restored the lead but hit the crossbar in the process.
In the 31st minute, Ane Etxezarreta was sent off for Real Sociedad after a rough tackle.
The numerical advantage counted for something in the 58th minute as a long ball from Alicia Redondo Gonzalez located Imade whose left-footed effort inside the box beat Elene Lete Para before hitting the back of the net.
The goal tends to be the game-winner as Granada holds on to secure a famous win in their first game in the top division.
Imade played full 90 minutes for Granada and showed how important she is to the team after announcing herself with a hat-trick earlier in a 4-1 win over Racing Satander in the Copa De La Reina.
With the win, Granada occupy the seventh position on the table ahead of their next league game against Eibar on September 30, 2023.
