Nigeria Premier Football League reschedules Matchday 28 fixtures

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

In a twist of event given the ultimatum issued to states by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to complete their FA Cup finals on or before March 31, 2024, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have rescheduled their next fixtures.

36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to complete their FA Cups and submit the names of representatives for national finals at the end of next weekend.

This development will hugely affect the league schedule as far as the top-flight football league in the country is concerned.

As a result of the above, the NPFL matchday 28 fixtures initially scheduled to take place on April 2 will now be held on Wednesday, April 3.

In a letter signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer (COO), Davison Owumi to the Chairmen and General Managers of clubs, the re-arrangement in the schedule was revealed.

Relatively, clubs were advised to ensure necessary logistics are put in place for hitch-free games

With 11 games before the end of the 2023/2024 NPFL season, the race for the title is still unclear coupled with the relegation battles.

Four points separate the top five teams while eight points are between bottom-placed Heartland FC and 16th-positioned Akwa United.
