NPFL: Ikorodu City secures first win in style against Bendel Insurance

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ikorodu City FC clinched their first win of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Saturday.

After a difficult start to the campaign, the Oga Boys turned their fortunes around in emphatic fashion, breaking their five-game winless streak.

Rivio Ayemwenre opened the scoring in the 48th minute, followed by Kelechi Onwe, who doubled the lead just eight minutes later. Toyeeb Ajeyigbe sealed the win with a third goal to ensure the hosts’ dominant performance.

In other action, defending champions Rangers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Sunshine Stars at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

This loss comes on the back of a 2-1 setback against Remo Stars just last month, further complicating the Flying Antelopes’ start to the season. Sunshine Stars’ Stephen Chukwude netted the decisive goal in the 43rd minute, securing a crucial win for the home side.

Matchday six continues on Sunday with eight more exciting fixtures as teams battle for supremacy in the ongoing NPFL season.
