NWFL confirms simultaneous kick off for final Playoff games

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six is poised for a thrilling and momentous conclusion, as all three crucial Matchday 5 matches will occur simultaneously at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 17, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

In a remarkable turn of events, four teams—Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies—enter the final day with a legitimate opportunity to secure the league title, highlighting one of the most competitive title races in the history of the NWFL Premiership.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi explained the rationale behind the simultaneous matches, stating, “It is essential to uphold the integrity of the competition. With four teams still vying for the championship, a simultaneous kick-off guarantees fairness and sustains the excitement.”

She further remarked, “This represents a historic occasion for the league, and we aspire for the best team to emerge victorious under the most transparent circumstances.”

Leading the standings with eight points, Nasarawa Amazons will face Edo Queens, who trail by just one point, in a critical encounter at the Main Bowl.

A victory for either team will secure the championship, while a draw could leave opportunities open for others, contingent on goal difference and goals scored. On Pitch 4, Bayelsa Queens will aim to take advantage of the situation against Naija Ratels, who have yet to earn a point.

A decisive win could enable Bayelsa to claim the title if the leaders falter. Concurrently, Remo Stars Ladies, competing on Pitch 2 against Rivers Angels, remain in contention as well.

With a strong victory and favorable outcomes in other matches, the hosts could achieve a remarkable late surge to seize the championship. According to the competition regulations, the final rankings will be determined by goal difference, goals scored, goals conceded, and head-to-head results, in that order, in the event of a points tie.

With each match carrying significant title implications and every goal potentially pivotal, Matchday 5 is set to deliver an unforgettable conclusion to what has already been an intensely contested season.
