Osayi Kingdom commits international future to Uganda despite Nigerian heritage

Goalkeeper Osayi Kingdom has chosen to represent Uganda at international level, despite being born to Nigerian parents, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

Kingdom, who was born on 3 June 2004, currently plays for Swedish club Assyriska FF. The 1.98-metre goalkeeper is eligible to play for Uganda through his maternal grandmother, who was born in Kaberamaido.

His decision gives the Uganda Cranes another promising option in goal as the national team continues to strengthen its squad. Kingdom’s age, physical stature and goalkeeping ability are expected to increase competition for places within the department.

The move is another example of a player with Nigerian heritage choosing to pursue an international career with a different national team.

Kingdom will now aim to establish himself in the Uganda national team setup and compete for selection in the Cranes squad.
