Paris Saint-Germain move top of Ligue 1 after late win over Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain climbed to the top of Ligue 1 by beating Lyon 2-0 at the Parc des Princes, with both goals arriving in the final 18 minutes.
The result, secured on Monday in the eighth round of the competition, extended Paris Saint-Germain’s impressive winning run and sent a clear warning to their title rivals.
Lyon held out for more than an hour before Senny Mayulu broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute. Mika Gotz then added a second goal in the 84th minute, completing the victory in a decisive 12-minute spell.
The win moved Luis Enrique’s side on to 17 points, one clear of second-placed Rennes. Lyon remained fifth on 14 points, one behind Lille and Monaco, who occupy third and fourth place respectively.
Second-half strength
French network Stats Foot highlighted Paris Saint-Germain’s ability to settle matches after the interval. The team have scored 13 of their 16 Ligue 1 goals this season from the 60th minute onwards.
That late attacking threat was again evident against Lyon, as the hosts turned a closely contested match into a comfortable victory during the closing stages.
Paris Saint-Germain have now won their last eight official matches. It is their best winning sequence since the period between January and March 2025, when they recorded 10 consecutive victories.
The fixture information accompanying the competition listing also includes Le Havre in Ligue 1 on 30 October 2026, and Paris Saint-Germain against Lyon in Ligue 1 on 31 October 2026, alongside Angers.
