Pedro Porro vows to stay at Tottenham and shrugs off calls to replay World Cup final

Spain defender Pedro Porro says he is “very happy” at Tottenham and fully focused on his club career in England, while dismissing Argentine complaints and calls for a replay of the World Cup final his country won.

Porro, a key member of the Spain side that lifted the World Cup with a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina, was speaking at an emotional tribute held in his home town of Don Benito.

The right-back made clear that becoming a world champion has not dulled his hunger for further success.

“There is still a lot for me to achieve. I am a player with big ambition and I always try to learn more. Everyone who knows me knows that I am aiming for more,” he said.

Asked about his next career steps, the 24-year-old underlined that he intends to remain at Tottenham, where he is under contract.

Although he left open the possibility of going back to La Liga one day, he was clear that such a move is not currently on his mind, reiterating that his “full focus” is on his career at Spurs.

He said he wanted to dedicate his success to all those who had been alongside him since the very start of his football journey.

Porro acknowledged that he had never imagined receiving a tribute of this scale in his home town, and underlined that reaching the top level had required “a lot of sacrifices”, particularly from the moment he had to leave home to pursue his professional career.

He lightened the mood during the ceremony with a joke about the attention his grandfather, Antonio Sausida, has attracted locally, quipping that the reception was really “for him”.
