Super Falcons complete WAFCON squad as Abiodun and Monday join camp in Morocco

Nigeria head coach Justine Madugu now has his full 25-player squad in camp for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday reported to the Super Falcons’ base in Casablanca.

The duo checked into the team’s Marriott Hotel camp in the Moroccan city ahead of the tournament, completing the group for the final phase of preparations before the continental title defence.

Abiodun and Monday had been due to link up with the squad on Tuesday, travelling in from the United States, but their journey was disrupted when their scheduled flight was cancelled, forcing a delay of several days.

Their late arrival meant both players were unavailable for Nigeria’s 2-1 international friendly win over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars on Thursday night, a match that served as the Super Falcons’ last warm-up fixture before the competition kicks off.

Squad status and selection history

Abiodun was a member of the Super Falcons side that took part in the previous edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and returns to the squad for another campaign at continental level.

Monday, by contrast, narrowly missed out on selection for that last WAFCON tournament, and this call-up gives her the opportunity to feature at the finals after coming close on the previous occasion.

Travel plans and group schedule

With the camp now at full strength, the 10-time African champions are scheduled to leave Casablanca for Rabat on Friday, where all of their Group C fixtures will be played.

Nigeria will open the defence of their WAFCON crown against Malawi’s Scorchers on Tuesday, before facing Zambia and then Egypt in their remaining group matches.
