Rafael Nadal set to join Real Madrid board after members’ vote

Rafael Nadal is set to become a member of Real Madrid’s board after the club confirmed it will put forward his appointment for approval at a general assembly on 21 November.

The appointment is expected to be approved, which would allow the Spanish tennis great to formally join the board of the football club.

Real Madrid announced the proposal in an official statement, published by Marca, saying: “Proposal from the board of directors to be approved by the extraordinary general assembly, concerning the appointment of Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”

The club added: “In this regard, the board unanimously agreed to submit the following proposal to the extraordinary general assembly for approval: to ratify the appointment of Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”

The club’s ordinary general assembly will take place on 21 November, with the first session scheduled for 09:00 and the second at 10:00.

Its agenda will include the president’s report, as well as the review and approval, if applicable, of the settlement of the budget, the annual report, the balance sheet and the club’s profit and loss account for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Members will also consider the consolidated accounts covering Real Madrid and its subsidiaries for the same financial year. Other items include the proposed consolidated revenue and expenditure budget and activities plan for 2026/2027, and the membership fees proposed for the 2027/2028 season.

Questions and comments from members will also be addressed during the ordinary meeting.

The extraordinary general assembly will begin immediately afterwards and will have a single item on its agenda: Nadal’s appointment to the board.

Real Madrid regards Nadal, a long-time supporter of the club, as one of the greatest sporting figures in history and a role model because of both his achievements and his character.

Nadal thanked Real Madrid and club president Florentino Perez on social media for the proposal, confirming that he had accepted it.

“I would like to thank president Florentino Perez and the board of directors for proposing that I join the Real Madrid board,” Nadal said. “I have accepted this proposal with great enthusiasm and I am eager to learn and contribute as much as I can.”
