Real Madrid end Barcelona’s Camp Nou league winning run

Real Madrid ended Barcelona’s unbeaten home record in La Liga with victory at Spotify Camp Nou, bringing the Catalan club’s remarkable run at the redeveloped stadium to a close.

Jose Mourinho’s side became the first team to win at Barcelona’s home ground in domestic competition since the stadium was reopened following renovation work. The result came at the end of a difficult week for Barcelona, who were unable to produce their best performance in the latest El Clasico.

Barcelona had won 18 consecutive La Liga matches at Spotify Camp Nou since opening the redeveloped stadium with a 4-0 victory over Athletic Club. During that run, they scored 58 goals and conceded only 11.

That sequence ended against Real Madrid, although Hans Flick’s team were not considered to have deserved to lose the match. However, they were also well below the level they had shown in their strongest performances.

Journalist Oriol Jove, speaking on RAC 1, noted that Barcelona’s home record would have extended to 19 successive victories if the match against Real Madrid had also been won. He included Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Real Mallorca in the stadium’s farewell match before renovation work began.

According to Jove, Barcelona have achieved a run of at least 19 consecutive home wins at Spotify Camp Nou on only three other occasions in the club’s history. Those sequences came between 1958 and 1960, from late 1973 until late 1974, and between 2012 and 2014.

Despite the latest defeat, Barcelona have lost only one other match at home since returning to the stadium. That loss came against Atletico de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

The defeat by Real Madrid is therefore not Barcelona’s first at the redeveloped ground. Although they maintained a perfect record in La Liga last season, they were beaten 2-0 by Atletico de Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

Barcelona are scheduled to face Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on 31 October 2026. Racing Santander are also listed for a La Liga fixture on 1 November 2026, while Real Madrid are listed for a match in the competition on the same date.
